Market Intelligence Summary

  • Demand at IEX was down marginally, from 184 MUs to 178 MUs. However, the larger impact on price likely came from the sharp increase in supply. Sell bids volume jumped from 204 MUs to 227 MUs, the highest level in 7 trading sessions. All-India RTC clearing price declined 5.6% to Rs 3.17/kWh.
  • NORTHERN REGION: On 10 August, Total hydro power capacity of 2,092 MW was revived across Himachal Pradesh following completion of de-silting operations. Haryana revived another unit of Panipat TPS (210 MW) on 10 August; the unit had been shut for 3 months due to low demand.
  • WESTERN REGION: A total of 870 MW capacity was shutdown in Maharashtra and Gujarat due to low demand on 10 August. Essar Mahan also shut a 600 MW unit just after midnight on 11 August citing low schedule. 
  • IMD WEATHER FORECAST: 12 August — Extremely heavy rainfall expected in Bihar and Sikkim; heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu. 13 August — Heavy rainfall expected in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, eastern Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and southern Karnataka.
