Market Intelligence Summary

  • All-India RTC clearing price was marginally up, from Rs 3.92/kWh to Rs 3.94/kWh with a 3% decline in demand at 193 MUs. Supply witnessed a sharper decline of 16% to 178 MUs. This means that higher bids were placed, likely from the sell side. The share of cheap hydro power has been on the decline, especially from Teesta Urja, Himachal Pradesh and Karcham Wangtoo – the largest sellers during monsoon.
  • WESTERN REGION: On 10 October, a 660 MW unit of NTPC Solapur was shutdown due to coal shortage. A 250 MW unit of Paras thermal power plant in Maharashtra’s state sector was also shutdown due to coal shortage while A 250 MW unit of Dahanu thermal power plant in the state was revived. A 660 MW unit of Sasan UMPP was also revived. On 11 October, Maharashtra lost another unit of 332 MW at Ratnagiri gas power plant due to technical fault.
  • NORTHERN REGION: A 660 MW unit of Bara thermal power plant in Uttar Pradesh was shutdown on 10 October due to coal shortage. Two units of 855 MW capacity in Rajasthan’s state sector are expected to be revived on 10 October, they have been shut since 23-24 September due to coal shortage.
