Market Intelligence Summary

  • All-India RTC clearing price finally dropped below Rs 3.00/kWh after 5 consecutive sessions of high prices. The 8-day high sell bids volume and a decline in demand (a first in several Saturdays) led to this market situation. Over the last five sessions, supply has increased by 51% while price has fallen by 20%.
  • SOUTHERN REGION: Clearing prices in the southern region were sharply higher than prices in other regions. The shutdown of HDVC Talcher-Kolar, and the resulting import congestion from eastern region, seems to be the underlining reason for this price disparity. The congestion is expected to last at least till 14 August delivery.
  • WESTERN REGION: Maharashtra suffered outage of 930 MW capacity, including a 660 MW unit of Adani Power Tiroda, due to technical issues on 11 August.
  • IMD WEATHER FORECAST: 13 August — Heavy rainfall expected in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, and southern Karnataka. 14 August — Heavy rainfall expected in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and southern Karnataka.
