Market Intelligence Summary

  • All-India RTC clearing price jumped 9% to Rs 4.29/kWh as buy bids volume increased 12% to 3-day high of 220 MUs. Sell bids volume was down marginally, from 178 MUs to 173 MUs. The sharp jump in demand came from West Bengal and Rajasthan while Uttar Pradesh reduced procurement sharply.   
  • WESTERN REGION: On 11 October, Maharashtra reduced procurement to less then 1 MUs after 660 MW unit Adani Power Tiroda was revived. 
  • EASTERN REGION: West Bengal increased power procurement from LTA as well as IEX as total grid import increased by over 11 MUs. Procurement from central sector power plants remained virtually unchanged.
  • NORTHERN REGION: Three units of 250 MW capacity each of state-owned Suratgarh thermal power plant in Rajasthan were supposed to be revived on 11 October. However, at the time of publication of this report NRLDC had not reported their revival. Rajasthan lost 135 MW unit at Rajwest thermal power plant on 11 October while it managed to revive a 195 MW unit of Kota thermal power plant which had been shut since 24 September due to coal shortage. Punjab also lost 700 MW unit at Rajpura thermal power plant on 11 October due to coal shortage.
