Market Intelligence Summary

  • New cleared volume record was created as it jumped over 5% to 183 MUs. Marginal increase in both demand and supply were seen for 14 Sep’ delivery. All-India RTC clearing price was down nearly 2% but remained above Rs 5.00/kWh for the fourth consecutive session. Uttar Pradesh increased procurement by 30% to 34.1 MUs while Telangana reduced procurement by 18% to 34 MUs.
  • NORTHERN REGION: The recent jump in procurement by Uttar Pradesh seems to be due to reduced rainfall and rise in temperature across the state. Despite a marginal change in supply from ISGS and other long-term sources, the state increased IEX procurement to as high as 34 MUs. Even with a procurement of 26.2 MUs from IEX the state witnessed a shortage of 22 MUs on 13 September.
  • SOUTHERN REGION: Fall in rainfall, increased temperature and sharp decline in wind power generation may have contributed to the sharp rise in power procurement by southern states. Over the last few days, wind power generation across the country has fallen below the solar power generation even though wind power capacity is three times the solar power capacity. This, along with coal supply issues, may have forced rare participants like Tamil Nadu and Kerala to acquire substantial volumes from IEX.
