Market Intelligence Summary

  • All-India RTC clearing price jumped 16% to Rs 4.93/kWh, the highest level since 18 September. The prices moved up sharply despite only marginal changes in demand and supply, thus indicating a change in bidding strategy by major players. 
  • WESTERN REGION: A total capacity of 2,997 MW was revived in the western region on 4 October. This includes a 660 MW unit of Sasan UMPP, 660 MW unit of NTPC Solapur, 660 MW unit of state-owned Koradi thermal power plant in Maharashtra. A 332 MW unit of Ratnagiri gas power plant was also revived. GMR Chhattisgarh Energy revived a 685 MW unit for supplying Bihar and Dadar & Nagar Haveli through short-term bilateral deals.
  • NORTHERN REGION: A 660 MW unit of Adani Power-owned Kawai thermal power plant in Rajasthan was revived on 4 October. The unit had been shut since 19 September due to coal shortage.
  • EASTERN REGION: Bihar increased procurement from IEX likely due to the reduced supply from central sector power plants where supply fell by over 3 MUs. West Bengal increased procurement from IEX as supply from central sector power plants, STOA and LTA transactions fell.
