Market Intelligence Summary

  • All-India RTC clearing price touched 3-year high with a jump of 14% to Rs 5.61/kWh. The buy bids volume increased for a fourth consecutive trading session to 239 MUs while sell bids volume reported an increase of 11% to 137 MUs.
  • WESTERN REGION: Gujarat increased procurement from IEX by 10 MUs. As per revision #26 (6 October) the supply schedule from central sector power plants was lower by 5 MUs compared to that on 5 October. Gujarat continued to suffer from outages at central as well as state sector power plants on 5 October and had to receive several power units that it had shutdown earlier due to costly generation. On 6 October, a 660 MW unit of Adani Power Mundra was shutdown due to low coal supply. At present, 1,980 MW capacity at the Adani power plant are shut due to coal shortage.
  • NORTHERN REGION: A 600 MW unit at state-owned Rajiv Gandhi thermal power plant in Haryana was revived on 5 October. The unit had been shut since 17 September due to coal shortage. Uttar Pradesh also increased procurement from IEX by more than 6 MUs. While the supply from central power plants to the state increased, either the demand increased or supply from state-sector power plants reduced forcing increased procurement from IEX.
